The vision for the former Lathrop Boys Camp is to transform the underutilized campus into a restorative residential youth development center serving young people through education, vocational training, counseling, recreation, and hands-on learning. The concept reuses existing dormitories as smaller, home-like residential settings and repurposes campus buildings for classrooms, workshops, shared dining, and community gathering spaces. Outdoor programming includes agriculture, horticulture, animal-assisted therapy, recreation trails, and opportunities to develop practical life skills. The vision emphasizes rehabilitation over incarceration, creating a supportive environment that helps youth build independence while bringing new jobs, partnerships, and long-term economic activity to Huerfano County.
